Who is this course aimed at?

This newly updated course, will cover the recently enacted Building Control Amendment Regulations 2014, together with its associated Code of Practice. All those involved in the construction industry will find this short course useful, particularly those involved in design, detailing, construction overseeing & inspection, and certification of building projects.

What skills will I learn?

This SI 9 has significantly changed the way buildings are inspected and certified, and will hopefully in turn bring more work to construction professionals. Part of the inspection procedure will now include CE marking of materials in accordance with the new Construction Products Regulations which came into effect July 2014. A 3rd area that has been added to this short course is the new Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations 2012. This course also addresses all key aspects of the building regulations, provides a brief introduction to the Eurocodes, and should be invaluable to both new users of the building regulation guidance documents, and those that may enjoy a refresher course.

What are the benefits of doing the course online?

The online delivery course will be offered over a 13 weeks period, one evening (provisionally Thursdays 6pm - 9pm, including tutorials) per week. Lectures may be viewed live, with interaction opportunities available via questions typed in at the keyboard by registered students, or may be viewed on the lecture recordings which will be made available for the duration of the semester. Attendance at MTU's Bishopstown Campus in week 14 or 15 for a terminal examination assessment of 2 hours duration will be required.

Admission Requirements:

Applicants should hold a minimum of an NFQ Level 7 qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architecture or Architectural Technology or in a cognate discipline.
