Creator Project 2018

The Department of Technology Enhanced Learning team is happy to announce the continuation of the annual CIT Creator Initiative; this year we will present a showcase of Virtual Reality (VR) and its potential as a tool for Teaching and Learning. VR has seen some really exciting developments over recent years and the development of high fidelity immersive environments for use as educational simulations is but one example of such applications of the technology (Nasa Training Simulator, Hololens Anatomy)

This year, the Creator Project will offer attendees the opportunity to hear from research-active staff engaged in the area and to engage with the latest VR hardware such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The showcase comprises of two parts:

1. A short series of talks on VR and its potential applications to education

A short series of VR talks will take place from 1:15pm to 1:45pm with light refreshments served afterwards.

Speaking at the event will be:
Dr Gearoid O Suilleabhain (Dept of TEL) on VR for Learning (10 minutes)
Joey Campbell (Media Communications) on his research area ‘Physiologically Controlled Immersive Games’ (10 minutes)
Larkin Cunningham (Computer Science) on a Study of VR, Game-based Learning and Learning Analytics (10 minutes)

2. A limited number of VR demonstrations

A limited number of places are available for staff to use some VR environments including a bespoke sports demo by Killian McSweeney (Creative Digital Media Student) and some other training related games. 10 minute demonstration slots are available between 8:30am and 12pm on Tuesday May 8th.
