What is Hybrid Learning?

Hybrid learning is a “synchronous but separate” teaching and learning approach that simultaneously accommodates both in-person (i.e., on-campus or on-site) and online participants. At MTU, the Department of Technology Enhanced Learning has developed a particular hybrid model for its staff and student development offerings.  Our hybrid training sessions are designed not just to accommodate online and in-person attendance but to ensure parity of engagement and experience for both groups and typically include synchronous activities using Zoom features such as chat, class polls and shared whiteboards and annotation. Sessions may also be supported using asynchronous learning elements on Canvas, such as online interactive exercises (using H5P, quizzes and assessments) or pre-recorded video.
