Technology Enhanced Learning Strategy 2017-2020

MTU Cork's new Technology Enhanced Learning Strategy is at its heart about planning for ways in which Technology Enhanced Learning can both support the creation of new online learning opportunities and can also help enrich the learning experience of all our students.

The last few years have seen significant activity in the institute in the use of technology for teaching and learning. The launch of the highly successful online MSc in Cloud Computing in 2011 marked the beginning for the institute of a move away from long running but one-off, and often externally-funded, pilots in that area towards a now substantial range of accredited mainstream online courses. In addition, the use of Technology Enhanced Learning to support on-campus learning has grown in parallel over the same period in scale, impact and sophistication. Concomitant demands in terms of support, services and research gave rise to the creation, in 2014, of a Department of Online Delivery and subsequently to its development into our current Department of Technology Enhanced Learning. In many ways the new strategy serves to consolidate all of this activity and to focus resources and efforts in an integrated and planned way.

The Strategy Document

Our new strategy is the result of an extended period of reflection, writing and consultation across all levels of institute beginning in late 2016 and continuing throughout 2017. We are thankful to the many different groups and individuals involved in providing feedback and input to the document over this period and for their help in preparing it for its ultimate presentation to the Institute Executive Board document in November 2017.

The final version of the document, approved by the executive in December 2017, can be viewed in full online below. For a printed copy please contact the department @
