E-Learning Design and Development
This programme is aimed at those wishing to pursue a qualification in the burgeoning e-learning sector to work as designers and developers for e-learning and learning technology units which are becoming mainstream in a number of other other sectors and workplaces, including, in particular, the broader education and training sector.
The programme is delivered entirely online using many of the same e-learning tools and technologies which also form the course curriculum. This means the programme may appeal to those who, for whatever reasons, cannot commit to attending regular face-to-face lectures and labs or who simply find the flexibility and convenience of studying at a distance attractive.
In the above context the programme seeks to produce developers of cutting edge, educationally effective e-learning solutions. Our graduates, subsequently, will go on to work as designers and developers either directly as part of the burgeoning e-learning sector or in support of in-house e-learning and learning technology departments which are becoming mainstream in a number of other areas and industries. The programme is a Master of Arts and, as such, reflects a special orientation towards, variously, creativity, culture and design, rather than technology per se.

What is a Module?
A module is a standalone unit of learning and assessment and is completed within one semester. A full-time student will normally study six modules in each semester; part-time and ACCS (Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects) students will have flexibility as to the number of modules taken.

Entry Requirements
Direct entrants to this 60 credit award would typically require a Level 8 qualification in fields such as multimedia, digital media, media applications or a relevant area of design.
Applicants without such qualifications will also be considered if they can show an equivalent level of learning gained through practice or any other means (see MTU’s policy for Recognition of Prior Learning).
Level 8 graduates with qualifications in other fields are invited to undertake an initial 30 credit Certificate in Digital Media Design and Development. In all cases, final admission to the course will be on the basis of interview.
What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

Students enrolled in the MA in E-learning at MTU are required to procure their own license for the Adobe 360 suite. This software is essential for course participation and assignments. Licenses can be purchased directly from the vendor under an academic licensing agreement, which may provide discounted rates for students. It is the student's responsibility to ensure they have access to this software for the duration of the programme.
